The South Pier – temporary pier

The South Pier at Oslo Airport opens on 3 Sept. The pier is temporary and is being built to maintain capacity during the airport expansion.

The new pier is being built south of the current domestic pier. A footbridge will link the pier to the terminal at what is now Gate 17. The pier eliminates the need for the increased use of busses, even though existing gates have to be closed during construction and passengers will have to walk farther in the terminal. All passengers departing from the South Pier have to allow about 5 minutes extra time to make it from security to their gate.

The new aircraft parking stands do not have airbridges to the terminal, so travellers must use the stairs down from the pier and up into the aircraft. An elevator down to ground level is available at every second gate. The pier has eight gates, all with waiting areas for passengers, with about 60 seats each. Since the pier is a temporary measure, it will have fewer services and facilities than the existing terminal. It will have vending machines, and its own style of architecture. The pier will have large windows facing aircraft to the north.
